The Children's Shop
Welcome to our Children’s Department! Since our establishment in 1790, which makes us the oldest independent shoe shop in the country, our children’s shop has become recognised as one of the best in the UK. We pride ourselves on our reputation, which with the help of our loyal customers, has been built over centuries.
Our children’s collection showcases a fantastic selection of school shoes, weekend trainers and summer sandals from well-known brands like Clarks, Start-Rite, Geox and Primigi .
We also offer a brilliant range of cruisers and first shoes to sit alongside our exclusive First Shoes Club so you can treasure this special moment forever! Our expertly trained shoe fitters will measure your child’s feet in-store to help them find the perfect pair of shoes. You can book a shoe- fitting appointment online or by calling 01622 752349. We can also offer specialist fitting advice over the phone if you’re slightly further afield.

We realise that the fit of every style of shoe differs and an extensive knowledge of product is key to ensure the perfect fit. We encourage our team to see each foot as unique, and to make sure that we provide the best level of service for all our customers. All our team members complete a comprehensive training course. Every fitter is trained to use our hand measuring gauges. As well as in-store fit training we utilise training available from brands like Clarks and Startrite we also have 6 members of the Society of Shoe Fitters
First Shoes
Correctly fitted first shoes are an important first step to the healthy development of tiny feet. At The Golden Boot we want to ensure that you and your child have a really special first shoe experience to treasure and remember forever. We have a dedicated first shoe department with a great range of shoes we will also offer you a £4.99 gift pack which includes a photograph of your child’s first shoe experience.
Our Engine Shed
We love our trains at The Golden Boot, and so do the children who come to our shop. We have four model engines which are fully operational and are triggered with a 10p coin.
