Joseph Cheaney founded his luxury footwear company in 1886. Since 1896, Cheaney has operated all its shoemaking processes, from concept and leather-cutting to polishing and boxing the shoes, in the same factory in Northamptonshire, the home of quality English shoemaking. One hundred and twenty expert craftspeople will use 200 operational techniques to craft one Cheaney shoe over eight weeks. Cheaney shoes are soled using Goodyear welting where a strip of leather is used to fuse the upper and insole. With wear, Goodyear welted soles become more comfortable and the soft cork filling material in the sole provides added cushioning. This exquisite attention to detail makes Cheaney shoes exceptionally unique. Even since the acquisition of Joseph Cheaney & Sons by Church & Co, a subsidiary of Prada, in 2009, the commitment to high-quality shoes made entirely in Northamptonshire, England has been unchanged. Cheaney continues to produce some of the finest, most premium leather shoes for men and women.
