Long Boots for Women

Long boots for women, on this page, means a shaft towards the knee: leather you can wear with a coat, a dress or jeans, not a low ankle shoe boot. We fit the foot and the calf together at Gabriel’s Hill. Low heel long boots for women are here for days when a taller heel would be a mistake, and smarter heels are here when the outfit asks for them.

Choosing knee-high boots in leather

Foot and calf together

Knee high boots in leather have to fit two places. A foot that fits, with a tight calf, will never be comfortable, and a roomy calf on a short boot will drop as you walk. Gabor is the name we fit most in this collection, with Pikolinos, NeroGiardini, Tamaris and Hispanitas. Fairfax and Favor and Holland Cooper sit at the smarter end. Black and brown lead the shades.

Heel height

Knee-high boots with heels change your balance and the way the shaft sits. A low heel is the one we suggest for a whole day in town. A higher heel can look right for an evening if you already wear that height. Tell us how far you will walk. We would rather fit a lower heel than watch you carry the boots home.

Fitting tips from our fitters

  • Measure the calf. We check it where the top of the boot will sit, not just the foot.
  • Bend your knee. The topline should not bite when you sit, or gape when you stand.
  • Use the zip as a test. If it strains to close, the calf is too narrow. Do not force it.
  • Wear the tights or jeans you plan. Heavy denim changes the calf measure.
  • Walk and then sit. A boot that only feels right standing still will slump on the train.

Gabor long boots

Read the Gabor size and fit guide before you come in. Pikolinos is the other last we are often asked to compare.

Frequently asked questions

Is it OK to wear long boots with a dress?

Yes, if the boot finishes where the hem expects and the calf is not tight. A knee boot under a midi dress is a classic winter outfit. Check you can sit without the topline digging in, and keep the heel at a height you can walk from the car to the door.

What are the best long boots for women?

The best of this collection is the pair whose calf, foot and heel all agree with you. Leather long boots for women from Gabor or Pikolinos are where we usually start, then we change make if the calf needs it. There is no single style we would hand to everyone.

Do you fit low heels and higher heels?

Both. Low heel long boots are the everyday choice. Knee-high boots with heels are for outfits where you will not be on your feet for hours. Try the higher one on our floor and be honest about the walk home.

Are reduced knee boots a different fit?

This page is the collection. Ladies’ knee-high boots in the sale are reduced pairs, and they move. Look at the sale boots page or ask in the shop, and we will say if a boot you like has a lower ticket. We do not invent discounts.
