Shoes For The Office

Shoes for the office should look tidy and still let you walk to the station. This collection is mostly black and brown, and it covers women and men: comfy work shoes for ladies from Gabor, Hispanitas and Josef Seibel, and smarter men’s pairs from Loake, Ecco and Jeffery West. Check your dress code before you decide a trainer is acceptable.

Choosing ladies’ smart work shoes, and men’s

Black shoes for work

Black shoes for work are what most offices still expect, with brown a close second in this collection. Ladies’ smart work shoes for women include a court, a loafer or a neat lace-up you can polish. Men’s office shoes run from an Oxford to a Loake or Crockett & Jones brogue. We fit both in the same shop, on different lasts, so say whose feet we are measuring.

Comfort that still looks smart

Comfy work shoes for ladies do not have to look like trainers. Ecco and Gabor give you cushioning under a plain upper. A very casual canvas shoe is a poor match for a formal office. If you stand more than you sit, our ladies’ shoes for work page goes further on all-day cushioning. Bring the dress code if it is written down.

Fitting tips from our fitters

  • Wear office hosiery or socks. Bare feet in a leather shoe will mislead you.
  • Walk as you do at work. Stairs, a turn, and a few minutes on a hard floor.
  • Polish is not a fit. A black shoe can still be the wrong width.
  • Men’s and women’s lasts differ. Do not guess across them. We measure the person who will wear the pair.
  • Measure both feet. We fit the larger foot, then check the smaller one does not slip.

Frequently asked questions

What shoes can I wear to the office?

Most people can wear a plain black or brown leather shoe: a loafer, a court, an Oxford or a discreet lace-up. Your workplace may be stricter or more relaxed than that. Ladies’ smart work shoes for women and a men’s brogue are both in this collection. If you are unsure, ask your manager, then we will fit inside that answer.

Is it OK to wear running shoes to the office?

Only if your workplace says so. A running shoe is built for sport, and many offices still expect leather. Where trainers are allowed, we can look at a plain dark pair, often from Ecco. Bring the rule if you have it. We will not tell you your company’s policy for you.

Are sneakers OK for the office?

Sneakers is another word for trainers. A clean, dark leather trainer can pass in a relaxed office. A chunky sports shoe usually will not. Check before you buy. If the answer is no, we will move you to a loafer or an Oxford that still has some cushioning.

Visit us on Gabriel’s Hill in Maidstone and we will fit the person who is actually at the desk. Pairs chosen for a long day standing are on ladies’ shoes for work, and brogues are on Oxford brogues.
