Comfortable Occasion Shoes

A celebration usually lasts longer than the photograph. We fit comfortable occasion shoes for weddings, parties and other dressed-up days, in a low heel and a mid heel, at our shop on Gabriel’s Hill.

Women’s special occasion shoes vary enormously by last. Ladies’ special occasion shoes in the UK are a subject our fitters know well, so bring the tights you will wear and, if you have one, a picture of the outfit.

Choosing comfortable occasion shoes

What to look for

  • Comfortable occasion shoes in a low heel when the day is mostly standing, speeches and a long meal
  • A mid heel if you already wear a little height and the floor will be even
  • A fastening or a close heel cup, so the shoe stays put when you turn
  • A footbed with some cushion, and a toe shape that does not pinch after an hour

Weddings, heels and width

People ask us for comfortable occasion shoes for a wedding more than for any other invitation. Black, cream, white, beige, taupe, pink and gold are the colours on this page. Comfortable occasion shoes in a mid heel suit someone who already wears a little height. We measure width and try Gabor, Waldlaufer, Hispanitas and Tamaris on the foot in front of us. We do not promise that every style is wide.

Fitting tips from our fitters

  • Wear the tights. A bare foot in the shop and 15 denier on the day is a different fit.
  • Stand, then walk. Heels that feel fine at the mirror can slip once you move.
  • Check both feet. We fit the larger one, and we look at the width across the toes.
  • Match the hem. A photograph of the dress tells us whether the heel is too tall for the skirt.
  • Break them in gently. An hour indoors on carpet, before the invitation, is worth more than a new pair on the morning.

Gabor occasion shoes

Gabor is the make we fit most often in this collection, with Hispanitas, Waldlaufer and Tamaris alongside. Read the Gabor size and fit guide before you come in.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most comfortable shoe to wear all day?

The shoe that fits, with a heel you can stand in and a fastening that stops the foot sliding forward. For a dressed occasion that is often a low block or a modest mid heel with a cushioned footbed, not the slimmest court on the shelf.

We will not name one style for every foot. Walk the length of the shop in the tights you plan to wear, and keep the pair that still feels quiet after several minutes.

Can I wear heels and still last the event?

Yes, if the height is honest about your day. Comfortable occasion shoes with heels still have to fit the larger foot, and a low heel is the safer choice for hours of standing. A mid heel can work when you wear that height already and the ground is level.

Very high heels are a short-appointment shoe. If the party runs on, take the lower pair we fitted, not a backup you have never walked in.

Do you keep wide fittings in occasion shoes?

Some styles are cut more generously and some are not. If you need comfortable occasion shoes in a wide fit, we will measure and try the brands on this page, then say so when a shoe is narrow.

We would rather say when a shoe is narrow than stretch a point. Width is a fitting, not a guess from the colour.

What should I bring to the fitting?

The tights or socks for the day, and a photograph of the outfit if the shoes are for a wedding or a party. If you use an insole, bring that too.

We are on Gabriel’s Hill in Maidstone. Our fitters will measure both feet and help you choose a pair you can wear for the whole occasion. You may also like our wedding shoes for women and party shoes for ladies.
