About Converse: Converse started in 1908. On the UK size chart, Chuck Taylor All Star and Chuck 70 are marked as running large, and Converse recommend going half a size down. A few current product pages instead say that particular style runs true to size, so check the style you are buying. In the shop we find them quite accurate but on the long side: if you are a clear whole size, stick to it, and do not add length on a rubber toe cap, which is easier to trip in if the shoe is too long. Nothing is in sized stock here at the moment. The charts below are Converse’s own, and sizes come and go with what we have in.

Converse fit & sizing tips

  • Half a size down for the classics. The UK chart says Chuck Taylor All Star and Chuck 70 run large. If you usually take a UK 8, they suggest UK 7.5.
  • Check the style note. Some product pages currently say “this style runs true to size”. If the chart and the product page disagree, believe the note on that style.
  • Our fitting note. They can feel long. A whole size that matches your foot is usually right, and we would not size up in a rubber toe cap.
  • Wider feet. Wide widths add about 15 mm across the ball and instep, and about 6 mm at the bottom of the last.
  • Measure the longer foot. Heel to the wall, mark the longest toe, and use that length against their cm column. One foot is often longer than the other.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Converse run large?

On the official UK chart, Chuck Taylor All Star and Chuck 70 do, and the advice is half a size down. Other styles can differ, and some product pages say true to size. Read the line on the style itself.

I am a whole UK size. Should I still go down?

The chart says yes for Chuck Taylor and Chuck 70. From fitting them here, a clear whole size is often fine, and we would not go longer. If you are between sizes, try the smaller one first, especially with a rubber toe cap.

Do they come in a wide fit?

Yes, on many Chuck Taylor styles. Wide is about 15 mm more room across the ball and instep than standard.

Should I wash canvas Converse?

We would not put them in the machine. Canvas can be wiped with a damp cloth and soapy water. A soak can shrink them.
