About Dubarry: Dubarry of Ireland has made footwear in Ballinasloe, County Galway since 1937, drawing on the brand’s sailing and marine heritage. They are best known for waterproof country boots such as the Galway, built with GORE-TEX lining and DryFast-DrySoft leather for wet fields, yard work and everyday country wear. We stock them because they are properly made and worth looking after for years, not just a single season.

Dubarry fit & sizing tips

  • True to size. Dubarry country boots and shoes are sized in whole and half UK sizes and generally fit true to size; order your usual size with the socks you plan to wear.
  • Leather softens with wear. Smooth-leather styles feel firmer at first, while softer leathers give more quickly, so a neat fit out of the box is fine.
  • Check the calf fit on tall boots. The Galway comes in SlimFit, RegularFit and ExtraFit, so measure your calf if you are between fittings or have a high instep.
  • Between sizes? Dubarry’s own advice is to try the smaller size first and use a footbed if you need roughly a quarter size taken up.
  • Our take. The GORE-TEX-lined country boots are genuinely waterproof, not merely water-resistant, which is why they cost more and last.

Dubarry Women’s Shoes

Dubarry women’s boots and shoes are made in UK sizes and generally come up true to size. The country boots have a fitted calf, so for the Galway and similar styles it is worth measuring the widest part of your calf as well as your foot. Deck shoes are best worn snug, as the leather gives with wear. We stock from UK 2.5 (EU 35), and some unisex styles run up to UK 12 (EU 47).

Dubarry Men’s Shoes

Dubarry men’s boots and shoes are made in UK sizes and generally come up true to size. Deck shoes are best worn snug, as the leather gives with wear, and the country boots have room for a thicker sock. We stock from UK 6 (EU 39) to UK 12 (EU 47), with some unisex styles from UK 3.

Dubarry Women’s Boot Liners

The Raftery faux fur boot liners are sized to the boot, not to a dress size. Small is the liner we have in stock, and on Dubarry’s chart it fits a boot in EU 35–39 (UK 3–5). They are a full-length liner for colder days in a country boot.

Dubarry Men’s Clothing

The Dunhill leather gilet and the Moore leather jacket follow Dubarry’s men’s outerwear chart. Measure around the fullest part of your chest with your arms relaxed, and take the closest size. Not every size is on both styles, so check the one you want.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Dubarry boots run true to size?

Yes, in our experience they generally do. Order your usual UK size and try them on with the socks you will actually wear in the field or yard.

What is the difference between SlimFit, RegularFit and ExtraFit?

These are Galway calf fittings, not foot widths. SlimFit suits a narrower calf, RegularFit is the standard fit, and ExtraFit gives more room around the calf, instep and foot entry if you need it.

Do Dubarry boots need breaking in?

Smooth-leather styles can feel firm at first and benefit from a few short wears indoors before a long day out. They do soften, but you should never be in pain; if your toes hit the front or the widest part of your foot is pinched, try another size or fitting.

Are Dubarry country boots fully waterproof?

The GORE-TEX-lined country boots are genuinely waterproof and breathable, which is what most customers buy them for. That is a step up from a water-resistant leather boot and worth having if you are out in wet grass or heavy rain regularly.

What socks should I wear with Dubarry country boots?

A proper country or walking sock rather than a thin trainer sock. Dubarry designs these boots with thicker hosiery in mind, and trying them on with the socks you plan to wear avoids ordering the wrong size.

I am between sizes. Should I size up or down?

Dubarry suggests starting with the smaller size if you are torn, then using a footbed to take up about a quarter size if the next size up feels too roomy. We are happy to check fit in the shop if you can visit us.
