About Ricosta: Ricosta is a German children’s footwear brand we have stocked for years, known for well-made leather school shoes, boots and trainers with a proper focus on fit. Many styles come in medium and wide width fittings through the WMS (Width Measurement System), which helps when standard high-street shoes feel too narrow or shallow. Removable insoles, rip-tape fastenings and Sympatex waterproof linings on selected boots are all part of why parents come back to Ricosta, particularly for school shoes and wet-weather wear.

Ricosta fit & sizing tips

  • True to size, and check the width. Ricosta uses the WMS width system, with most styles available in medium or wide fittings. Not every model comes in both, so check the product page before you order.
  • Wide fitting for broader feet. The wide fitting gives more room across the ball of the foot and over a higher instep, which suits children who struggle with standard G-fitting school shoes.
  • Sympatex styles keep feet dry. Many Ricosta boots and shoes use a waterproof, breathable lining for wet weather.
  • Our take. A well-made, durable choice for everyday school and play shoes, particularly for children with wider feet.

Ricosta school shoes fit

  • True to size, and check the width. Ricosta fits true to length in EU sizes, with most school styles offered in medium or wide WMS fittings, so check the product page for the fitting you need.
  • Wide fitting for broader feet. The wide fitting gives more room across the ball of the foot and over a higher instep, which suits children who find standard G-fitting school shoes too tight or shallow.
  • Rip-tape and deeper openings. Many styles fasten with rip-tape and open up wide, which helps get a fuller foot in and out easily.
  • Orthotic friendly. A removable footbed on many styles lets you slot in an orthotic or a deeper replacement insole.
  • Sizes: the school range runs from EU 18 (UK 2.5) up to EU 41 (UK 7).

Ricosta School Shoes Care Guide

School shoes take a battering, and a few simple habits will help a pair of Ricosta last the term and beyond.

  • Get your child into the habit of taking their shoes off at home so they can air out before the next morning.
  • Keep them somewhere dry and away from radiators. If they get soaked, stuff them with newspaper overnight to draw the damp out.
  • Wipe leather shoes over with a damp cloth, then work in a little matching polish with a soft, dry cloth for a shine.
  • Brush suede and nubuck styles with a suede brush when dry, and treat with a suitable waterproofer.
  • Rotate between two pairs where you can, so each gets time to dry out between wears.

It is also worth labelling shoes somewhere discreet, such as under the tongue or inside the heel, if there is any chance they will get mixed up with a classmate’s pair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Ricosta shoes run true to size?

Yes. Ricosta sizes in EU on the box and generally fit true to length when you match the foot measurement in cm. If your child’s foot is within about 2 mm of the upper limit for a size, we would usually go up to the next EU size to leave sensible growing room.

What is the difference between Ricosta medium and wide fittings?

Medium is the standard fitting for an average foot shape. Wide gives more room across the ball of the foot and over a higher instep, without necessarily needing a longer size. If Clarks G-fitting shoes feel too tight or shallow, the wide fitting is usually the one to try first.

Are Ricosta school shoes good for wide feet or a high instep?

They are one of the brands we turn to for exactly that. Parents often come to us after struggling with standard high-street school shoes, and the wide fitting plus a deeper opening on many rip-tape styles can make a real difference.

Do Ricosta shoes take orthotics or custom insoles?

Many Ricosta school shoes and boots have a removable footbed, so you can lift the factory insole out and slot in an orthotic or a slightly deeper replacement insole. Check the individual product details, as not every style has a removable insole.

What does Sympatex mean on Ricosta boots?

Sympatex is a waterproof, breathable membrane used as a lining in many Ricosta winter boots and wet-weather styles. It keeps rain and puddles out while still letting perspiration escape, which helps on damp school runs and muddy playgrounds.

How much growing room should I leave in Ricosta children’s shoes?

We aim for about a thumb’s width between the longest toe and the end of the shoe, which is roughly 12–14 mm of growing room. Ricosta’s own guidance suggests sizing up if the foot measurement is within 2 mm of the top of a size range.
