About Ricosta: Ricosta is a German children’s footwear brand we have stocked for years, known for well-made leather school shoes, boots and trainers with a proper focus on fit. Many styles come in medium and wide width fittings through the WMS (Width Measurement System), which helps when standard high-street shoes feel too narrow or shallow. Removable insoles, rip-tape fastenings and Sympatex waterproof linings on selected boots are all part of why parents come back to Ricosta, particularly for school shoes and wet-weather wear.

Ricosta School Shoes Care Guide
School shoes take a battering, and a few simple habits will help a pair of Ricosta last the term and beyond.
It is also worth labelling shoes somewhere discreet, such as under the tongue or inside the heel, if there is any chance they will get mixed up with a classmate’s pair.
Ricosta uses the German WMS (Width Measurement System). In the UK, most styles we stock come in medium or wide fittings within the same length.
A breathable, waterproof membrane fitted inside many Ricosta styles to keep feet dry in wet conditions.
A cushioned insole that lifts out for cleaning or to check growing room.
Yes. Ricosta sizes in EU on the box and generally fit true to length when you match the foot measurement in cm. If your child’s foot is within about 2 mm of the upper limit for a size, we would usually go up to the next EU size to leave sensible growing room.
Medium is the standard fitting for an average foot shape. Wide gives more room across the ball of the foot and over a higher instep, without necessarily needing a longer size. If Clarks G-fitting shoes feel too tight or shallow, the wide fitting is usually the one to try first.
They are one of the brands we turn to for exactly that. Parents often come to us after struggling with standard high-street school shoes, and the wide fitting plus a deeper opening on many rip-tape styles can make a real difference.
Many Ricosta school shoes and boots have a removable footbed, so you can lift the factory insole out and slot in an orthotic or a slightly deeper replacement insole. Check the individual product details, as not every style has a removable insole.
Sympatex is a waterproof, breathable membrane used as a lining in many Ricosta winter boots and wet-weather styles. It keeps rain and puddles out while still letting perspiration escape, which helps on damp school runs and muddy playgrounds.
We aim for about a thumb’s width between the longest toe and the end of the shoe, which is roughly 12–14 mm of growing room. Ricosta’s own guidance suggests sizing up if the foot measurement is within 2 mm of the top of a size range.
