About Salomon: Salomon size their footwear from the length of your foot. UK and EU sit beside that length, and the EU numbers move in thirds, such as 40, 40 2/3 and 41 1/3. Where they make a wide fit, it is a wider shoe, about 12 mm more across the forefoot, not a longer one. The charts further down are Salomon’s own size tables. Which sizes we can offer comes and goes with stock.

Salomon fit & sizing tips

  • Measure in the socks you will wear. Heel against a wall, mark the longest toe, and use the longer foot.
  • Allow a thumb’s width for running. Salomon suggest that much room at the toes, and the heel should not slip. A street-shoe size is not always the running size.
  • Wide is a different shoe. A style with WIDE in the name is about 12 mm wider at the forefoot. Going up a length is not the same thing.
  • Use the matching chart. Women’s and men’s guides are both driven by foot length, and they are not interchangeable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Salomon true to size?

Length follows the foot measurement on their chart. The fit is precise, so a wide foot is better in a WIDE model than in a longer standard shoe.

Why do the EU sizes look uneven?

They step in thirds. EU 40, 40 2/3 and 41 1/3 are neighbouring sizes, not a misprint. On the men’s chart, 24.5 cm is UK 6.5 and EU 40, and 25 cm is UK 7 and EU 40 2/3.

Should I size up for steep trails?

Start with a thumb’s width at the toes and no heel slip. On long, steep descents some runners want a little more room at the toe, as long as the heel still holds.

Which chart should I use?

The one that matches the shoe. Both are on the Salomon size guide, and both are driven by foot length in centimetres. A women’s UK 5 is 23 cm (EU 38). A men’s UK 8 is 26 cm (EU 42).
