How teenage girls’ shoes should fit

  • Wear school socks or tights. Bring what your daughter will wear day to day, so the fit is judged correctly.
  • Measure both feet. We measure both feet and always fit to the larger one.
  • Fitted in the right department. Older girls can be seated in the Ladies’ department, and some school shoes go up to a size 9, so they can be fitted from the Children’s shop or the Ladies’ shop.
  • Go easy on growing room with slip-ons. Too much room and slip-ons will slip on and off with wear, so these are more of a fashion choice.
  • Leather softens with wear. Firmer leather is often softened at the heel cup when we fit it; if it still feels stiff after a few wears, bring it back and we will soften it — this is quite normal.

Fastenings & styles

Older girls tend to prefer neat laced, buckle or slip-on styles. We will help balance the look your daughter wants with a fit that stays secure all day. Always undo laces or buckles before taking shoes off to protect the heel and shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

My daughter is between the children’s and ladies’ ranges — which should we choose?

Around a size 2.5 to 3 you can often fit from either range. We measure and try both so she gets the best fit and the style she likes.

Do teenage girls’ school shoes come in a size 9?

Yes, some do. Larger sizes are fitted from the Ladies’ department, so older girls are catered for under the same roof.

Do I need to book, or can we just walk in?

You are welcome to walk in any time. During the busy back to school period you can book a fitting appointment to skip the wait.
