About Barker: Barker has been making Goodyear welted shoes in Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, since 1880. They are still one of the few British makers with their own factory on site, and we stock them for customers who want a proper English dress or country shoe that can be resoled rather than thrown away.
This is Barker’s own women’s size chart, in UK, EU and US. Women’s shoes are made in a D fitting. Sizes on our site come and go with stock, so the table is here for when a pair is back in.

Many Barker styles are true to size, but the fit depends on the last shape rather than the size number alone. We would always check the last guide for the specific model, because several popular lasts run generous and need a half size down.
Barker’s own fitting advice flags lasts such as the 386, 464, 469, 487 and 493 as over-sized, often because of a longer toe cap or a thicker insole. If you are between sizes on one of those styles, we would usually try the half size smaller first.
F is Barker’s standard fitting and G is their wide fitting, with about 6 mm more width across the instep. A G fitting is not automatically a size up, and on some lasts Barker actually recommend going half a size smaller in G than you would in F.
Barker themselves advise wearing a new pair for short periods at first, because the Goodyear welted construction is stiff until the leather softens. Most customers find they bed in within a handful of wears rather than weeks of discomfort.
Yes. Barker offer a factory refurbishment service that strips the shoe and rebuilds it on the original last, and any good cobbler can resole a Goodyear welted pair in the meantime. That is one of the main reasons we recommend getting the initial fit right.
Brush off dry dirt after each wear, then use a good cream polish to feed the leather and keep the finish looking sharp. Use shoe trees and let them dry naturally between wears, and avoid wearing the same pair two days running while the leather is still damp.
