About Cotswold: Named after one of England’s largest Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Cotswold is a British footwear brand that started out making golf shoes in 1976 and later moved into wellingtons, walking boots and outdoor footwear. The brand is distributed by Gardiner Bros & Co in Gloucestershire. Cotswold became a familiar festival wellington after Glastonbury 2005, when heavy rain saw thousands of pairs shipped to muddy campers. We stock their wellies for dog walks, gardening, festivals and everyday wet-weather wear, from practical neoprene-lined country styles to smarter buckle boots at a sensible price.
Cotswold children’s wellies are sized in UK sizes and come up true to size. Measure your child’s foot and allow about a thumb’s width of growing room at the toe, plus a little extra if they will wear thick socks. We stock from EU 21 (UK 5) up to EU 38 (UK 5).
A flexible, insulating rubber lining used in some Cotswold country styles to keep feet comfortable in cold, wet conditions.
The circumference of the boot at the top of the leg. Wider calf fittings suit thicker trousers or bigger calves.
A side buckle on some Cotswold styles that looks adjustable but is often for appearance only, so do not rely on it to widen the calf.
Yes. Cotswold wellingtons are sized in whole UK sizes and generally fit true to size, which matches what we see in the shop and what the brand recommends on most styles.
If you are between sizes or plan to wear a thick welly sock, we would usually size up. Cotswold do not offer half sizes on most wellingtons, so going up a full size is the practical way to leave room without squeezing your toes.
It depends on the style. Some tall fashion boots such as the Sandringham have a fairly slim calf, while wide-fit country styles like the Ragley have an adjustable gusset that genuinely opens up. If you have wider calves, look for a wide-fit or gusseted model rather than assuming the buckle will help.
On some styles, yes, but on many of the smarter buckle boots the strap is decorative only and will not change the calf fit. We always check the product description before recommending a pair if calf width is the main concern.
Most Cotswold wellingtons use a moulded PVC or rubber upper with a synthetic lining and a cleated sole for grip on wet grass and mud. Neoprene-lined country styles such as the Grange add extra warmth around the foot, which is worth considering for colder months.
They are a sensible, practical choice for both. They are fully waterproof, reasonably lightweight for a welly, and priced well below premium fashion brands, which is why they became popular at Glastonbury and remain a regular choice for muddy dog walks.
