About Magnanni: Magnanni is a family-owned Spanish shoemaker founded in Almansa in 1954, still run today by the third generation of the Blanco family. They are known for hand-finished leathers, burnished patinas and sleek dress styles, from Oxfords and loafers to smarter casual pairs. Much of the production remains in Spain, with some styles made in Portugal. We stock them for customers after a well-made dress shoe with a more contemporary Spanish last than a traditional English bench-made shoe.

Magnanni fit & sizing tips

  • Runs slightly large. Magnanni is a Spanish brand sized in EU, and if you have not worn them before, Magnanni recommend starting half a size below your usual size. If you have wide feet, we often find your usual size is the better starting point. Use the conversion on Magnanni’s website, and the separate Dorio chart if that is the last.
  • Last varies by style. Magnanni use several different lasts, so fit is not identical on every model. The Dorio last, for example, has its own size chart on the brand site.
  • Hand-finished leather softens quickly. Bologna-constructed Magnanni styles flex and mould fast; Blake-stitched pairs with leather soles may still need a few short wears indoors before a long day out.
  • Leather soles need care in the wet. As with any premium leather-soled shoe, take extra care on wet or slippery surfaces until they are worn in. Rubber-soled Magnanni styles are more practical for everyday rain.
  • Our take. A genuinely luxurious Spanish shoemaker. The hand-finishing on the leather is a step above most brands at this price point.

Magnanni Men’s Shoes

This is Magnanni’s own men’s conversion. If you have not worn them before, they recommend starting half a size below your usual size, and trying them on carpet; the Dorio last uses a different chart. Sizes on our site come and go with stock.

Glossary

Hand-patina finish

A hand-applied colouring technique that gives each pair of Magnanni shoes a slightly individual, burnished depth of colour.

Leather sole

A traditional sole finish that needs a short break-in period before it flexes fully and grips well.

Blake stitch

A construction method stitching the sole directly to the upper and insole, giving a sleeker, more flexible shoe than a welted construction.

Bologna construction

A flexible method where a leather lining wraps the foot like a glove; Magnanni use it on many dress styles for comfort with little break-in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Magnanni shoes run true to size?

Not quite. Magnanni themselves say their shoes tend to run slightly large compared with many other brands. If you have not worn Magnanni before, we would start half a UK size below your usual size and check the fit on carpet before wearing them out.

Should I size down in Magnanni shoes?

For most first-time buyers, yes. Half a size down is Magnanni’s own recommendation and matches what we see in the shop. If you have wide feet or a high instep, your usual size may be the better starting point instead.

Do Magnanni shoes need breaking in?

It depends on the construction. Bologna-built Magnanni dress shoes flex and mould quickly, often within a few short wears indoors. Blake-stitched styles with leather soles can still feel firm at first and benefit from a gentle break-in before a long day on your feet.

Are Magnanni shoes narrow?

They are generally a standard medium width on a sleek Spanish last, so the toe can feel closer than a roomy English bench-made shoe. If you are between widths, trying them on is worthwhile; wider feet may prefer your usual size rather than sizing down.

Can I wear Magnanni leather soles in the rain?

We would treat a new leather sole with caution in wet weather until it has worn in a little and gained some grip. Rubber-soled Magnanni styles are a more practical choice if you need an everyday shoe for damp pavements.

Why does fit vary between Magnanni styles?

Magnanni make shoes on several different lasts to suit different toe shapes and silhouettes. The Dorio last is a good example: it follows its own size chart rather than the standard Magnanni conversion, so always check the product page if you are ordering that model.
