About Merrell: Merrell is an American outdoor footwear brand, founded in 1981 and now part of Wolverine World Wide. We stock them for walking shoes, trail shoes and light hikers, including the long-running Moab range. They are a sensible choice if you want proper grip and cushioning without the weight of a full leather boot.
Merrell women’s shoes carry the UK size on the box alongside the US size, and generally come up true to size with a roomier toe box than a typical trainer. If you are between sizes on a waterproof style or plan to wear thick socks, take the half size up. We stock from UK 4 (EU 37) to UK 9 (EU 43).

A moisture-wicking, cushioned insole used on many Merrell styles, which holds its shape well over long-term wear.
For most men, yes. The Moab is one of the styles we are asked about most, and it generally fits true to size on length with a roomier toe box than a typical trainer. Some women find newer Moab models run slightly short, so if you are between sizes or prefer a bit more toe room we would try the half size up.
Many Merrell walking styles already run a touch wider than a standard trainer, and key models such as the Moab are available in a dedicated wide fit. If you have a broader forefoot or like extra room for thicker socks, the wide option is worth trying before you size up in length.
Most do not. Merrell walking shoes and light hikers are designed to feel comfortable straight from the box, and the Moab in particular is known for needing very little break-in. A short walk round the house in the socks you plan to wear outdoors is still sensible before you head for the hills.
Only if you are already close on length. Merrell’s hiking lasts are cut with a bit of toe room for natural foot swell on longer walks, so your usual UK size with a proper walking sock is normally fine. If the shoe feels snug with a thin sock, try a half size up rather than forcing the laces tight.
They can feel a little firmer at first. Gore-Tex and other waterproof linings reduce internal volume slightly compared with the ventilated versions, so if you are between sizes on a waterproof Moab or similar we would lean towards the half size up, especially if you wear thicker socks.
