About New Balance: New Balance is an American trainer brand, founded in 1906, and one of the few names we stock that offers genuine width fittings from narrow through extra wide. Sizes on the box are US. Use the foot length in cm on New Balance’s own size chart to find the matching UK size. We reach for New Balance when a customer needs everyday trainers or school-friendly styles with room to get the length and width right, rather than guessing with a half size up.

New Balance offers several width options (2A narrow to 6E extra wide on some styles) within the same length, so wide or narrow feet can be properly fitted. Standard width is B for women and D for men; on women’s shoes, D denotes wide.

On length, yes. Most people find their usual size is right when matched to foot length in cm. If the shoe feels wrong, check the width before you change size; that is where New Balance differs from many trainer brands.
New Balance use letter widths as well as length. For men, D is standard and 2E is wide; for women, B is standard and D is wide. Narrow and extra-wide options (such as 2A or 4E) are available on selected styles only.
Usually not. If the length is fine but the forefoot feels pinched, a wider width in the same size is often the answer. Going longer adds heel room without really fixing width, and we see that mistake quite often.
They are one of the best options we stock for wider feet, precisely because of the width range. Not every model comes in every width, so check the listing or ask us which styles we have in wide and extra-wide fittings.
The number printed on the box is a US size. New Balance publish the UK and EU equivalents on their own size chart. If a generic UK conversion disagrees with the box, trust the foot length in cm on that chart.
Generally very little. Cushioned styles with Fresh Foam and similar midsoles feel comfortable straight away. Still allow a thumb’s width of growing room at the toe for children, as you would with any school or everyday trainer.
