Premium school shoes for everyday wear

About Ricosta: Ricosta is a German brand and the most premium school shoe we stock. Every style is fully leather-lined for comfort and hard wear, and the sole is injection-moulded straight onto the upper, which bonds the two together for good so the sole will not part company with the shoe. That same build copes really well in the wet, so they are a sensible choice for the walk to school whatever the weather. The removable insoles can be lifted out and washed to keep things fresh, and they are naturally antibacterial too.

Ricosta fit & sizing tips

  • True to size. Ricosta comes up true to size, so most children can stick with their usual size and leave about 1 cm of growing room at the toe.
  • Two width fittings. Ricosta is made in a Medium and a Wide fitting, so if your child has a broader foot it is well worth asking us for the Wide.
  • Leather-lined throughout. The full leather lining is soft against the foot and breathes well, which helps keep little feet comfortable through a long school day.
  • Washable insoles. The insoles lift out so you can wash them to freshen the shoes, and being naturally antibacterial they help keep odours down. The removable footbed also suits children who wear orthotics.
  • Secure fastenings. Every style has a secure fastening so the shoe holds the foot properly and stays put through the day.
  • If in doubt, go by the EU size. The UK number on our site can be half a size out from the one printed on the box, so the EU size and the foot length in cm are the ones to trust.

Ricosta Children’s Shoes

Ricosta school shoes are built to last a whole school year and then some. The injection-moulded sole is permanently bonded to the leather-lined upper, so it will not peel away, and it keeps the wet out on rainy mornings. They are snug through the heel and midfoot with room at the toes, and the washable, naturally antibacterial insole lifts out to keep them fresh. Children grow quickly, so it is worth checking the fit every few weeks against the foot length below. We stock from a small EU 18 (UK 2.5) right up to an adult EU 43 (UK 9).

Our best-selling Ricosta shoe

For girls — the Nora

Nora is our best seller and comes up true to size, so most girls can take their usual size with about a centimetre of growing room at the toe. If your daughter has a broader foot, ask us for the Wide fitting. It comes in both leather and genuine patent leather, with the full leather lining and secure fastening you get across the range.

What sets Nora apart is its chunkier, hard-wearing sole unit, which stands up to plenty of playground wear, and the injection-moulded build means the sole will not separate from the upper. Nora runs all the way up to a size 41, so it sees a lot of girls right through their school years.

Ricosta School Shoes Care Guide

Walks to school, playground games and craft lessons all take their toll on a pair of shoes. A few simple habits will help your child’s Ricosta shoes last the term and beyond.

  • Get your child into the habit of taking their shoes off at home, so they can air out before the next morning.
  • Lift the insole out now and then and wash it, then let it dry naturally before it goes back in. The insole is naturally antibacterial, so this keeps the shoes fresh.
  • Wipe leather over with a damp cloth to lift off dirt, then work in a little matching shoe cream to feed the leather and bring back the shine.
  • For the patent finishes, a soft damp cloth is all you need to keep them glossy. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep them somewhere dry, away from radiators. If they get soaked, stuff them with newspaper overnight to draw the damp out, and let them dry naturally.

It is also worth labelling shoes somewhere discreet, such as under the tongue, on the insole or inside the heel, if there is any chance they will get mixed up with a classmate’s pair.

Glossary

Injection-moulded sole

A premium construction where the sole is moulded straight onto the upper, bonding the two together permanently. The sole will not separate from the shoe, which adds to its lifespan and gives excellent performance in wet weather.

Full leather lining

The inside of the shoe is lined with leather throughout, which is soft against the foot, breathes well and wears better than synthetic linings.

Removable antibacterial insole

A washable footbed that lifts out to keep the shoes fresh, and is naturally antibacterial to help keep odours down. Handy too if your child wears orthotics.

Width fittings

Ricosta is made in two widths, Medium and Wide, so there is a fit for narrower and broader feet alike.

Patent leather

A glossy, hard-wearing leather finish offered on the girls’ styles, alongside the standard smooth leather.
