Children’s knee high boots, in UK sizes, are a smaller fitting than an ankle bootie. Waterproof long boots for girls are the request we hear most. Cotswold and Igor are the names we check first, with Primigi, Bobux and Ricosta for younger feet. Our fitters can advise on current styles.
Big girl knee high boots, once she is leaving children’s sizes, need a calf measurement as well as a foot measurement. Tell us the real job of the boot, including rain, school or riding, before you buy.
A long boot has to clear the calf without pinching, and the foot still has to be the right length. Waterproof styles are the honest match for rain and long grass. A fashion boot that looks tall in a photograph may only be a mid-calf, and it may wet through. We will say which you are holding, and we will not call a boot waterproof unless it is.
A heel on a growing foot is something we rarely fit. Long boots with a heel are unusual in children’s sizes, and a flat sole is what we look for first. An equestrian boot has to meet the yard’s own rules. What we fit here are everyday and waterproof boots, not a specialist riding boot. If she rides, ask us and we will tell you plainly if anything in stock is suitable.
Bobux is the other children’s house we open for small feet. The Bobux size and fit guide shows how those sizes run.
That is the style we are most likely to help with, usually from Cotswold or Igor, and not in every size every week. Primigi, Bobux and Ricosta are more often a shorter or a lighter boot. Ask our fitters what is actually waterproof in her size today, and have a look at our waterproof footwear as well.
Yes, from the Maidstone shop, in UK sizes, when the delivery includes them. Knee-high in a children’s size is a small part of the boot wall. If you need a specific height for a costume or a club, tell us the measurement and we will check the boot, not the name on the box.
We start with a flat. A heel makes a tall boot less stable, and a growing foot does not need the extra height. If an older girl is set on a low heel, she has to walk the shop in it without tipping, and the foot has to stay seated. If it fails, we fit the flat.
Only if the yard accepts them, and most yards want a proper riding boot. Please check their rules before you buy. We will not dress an everyday wellington up as riding kit. If nothing we hold meets the yard list, we would rather say so.
Call in at Gabriel’s Hill in Maidstone if you can. Knee-high boots need a calf and a foot measurement, which is much easier in the shop. When she has outgrown children’s sizes, see our long boots for women.
