Slippers For Boys

A slipper is for indoors: breakfast, homework and a cold hallway. It should stay on the heel, feel soft underfoot, and come off the moment he goes outside. We fit boys from the early years up to older boys slippers, including a UK size 5.

The shelf is small and it changes. If you need a particular size, ask us before you travel. There is a separate rail for children’s slippers in the sale when we have reduced pairs.

What to look for in a boys slipper

Indoors only

  • A light sole that grips a hard floor and is not an outdoor tread
  • A heel cup or a strap, so the slipper does not fly off on the stairs
  • A lining that is warm without being bulky in a sock
  • Room for the toes to spread, with no heavy toe spring

Older boys and a size 5

Size 5 is not the same length in every brand, so we measure rather than trust last winter’s box. Older boys slippers sometimes move into a men’s fitting. When that happens we will say so and look at boot slippers for men. Igor turns up from time to time as a light indoor shoe. Ask what is actually in.

Fitting tips from our fitters

  • Measure both feet. Fit to the longer one. A slipper that suits the smaller foot will pinch the other.
  • Do not add growing room to a slip-on. Spare length that helps a strap shoe will make a mule slide. Fit a slip-on so the heel sits, close but not tight.
  • Bring the socks he wears at home. Thick winter socks change the size. Bare feet in the shop hide that.
  • Walk on the stairs if you can. A slipper that stays put on a flat carpet can still slip on a step.
  • Keep them indoors. Once the sole has been in the garden it brings grit back onto the floor, and the footbed rarely recovers.

Frequently asked questions

Is it OK for toddlers to wear slippers?

A soft slipper is fine for a toddler who is already walking, worn indoors and for short spells. It is not a first shoe and it is not for the pavement or the garden. Outdoors he needs a fitted shoe with a flexible sole. If you are at that stage, start with our shoes for toddlers.

How do I choose comfortable slippers?

The best slippers for boys are the ones he keeps on. Look for a soft lining, a sole with a little grip, and a heel that does not collapse. His toes should move, and the opening should not gape so widely that he walks out of them. We will compare two or three rather than sell the first soft thing on the shelf.

Who is famous for wearing slippers?

Slippers turn up in stories and on people who are rarely seen in outdoor shoes. Fame is a poor way to choose a pair for a child. We are more interested in whether the heel stays put on the way to breakfast than in who else owns a pair.

What are the best slippers for big toe pain?

A roomy toe may be more comfortable if the big toe feels crowded in a narrow slipper. A slipper will not treat pain, swelling or a toe that is changing shape. See a podiatrist for that, and bring any advice to the fitting so we can look for width and depth around it.

The slippers for boys sale sits with our other reduced children’s slippers. Come to Gabriel’s Hill in Maidstone and we will measure both feet before you pick a pair, sale or full price. A second pair for grandparents is worth fitting too, because floors and socks differ.
