Meindl Respond Lady Mid II 4686 Walking Boots - Anthrazit/Turkis
£167.50
Winter shoes for ladies should keep a wet pavement and a cold day off your feet without forcing you into a tall boot. We fit closed shoes with a sensible sole at Gabriel’s Hill, and we will tell you which pairs are waterproof and which only cope with a shower. Lined styles and a proper sock do more for cold toes than a thin fashion shoe.

Waterproof winter shoes for ladies are the pairs made to keep water out, not every brown shoe in the shop. Ask us about Meindl, Dubarry and Panama Jack when rain is the problem. Gabor, Pikolinos, NeroGiardini and Josef Seibel are here in greater numbers for everyday winter wear. We will not call a shoe waterproof unless the make supports it.
A closed toe, a thicker sole and room for a wool sock will keep you warmer than a thin pump. Leather holds the weather off better than a light cloth shoe. If your feet stay cold because of circulation, a podiatrist should advise you. We can then fit a shoe around that, and we will not claim a shoe can treat it.
The Meindl size and fit guide is the one to read if you want a more outdoor last. Dubarry is the other weather-minded make we fit.
A closed shoe with a sole that grips, room for a warm sock, and an honest answer on water. That is as close as we will come to naming the best winter shoes for ladies. Your usual walk, from a school run to a town day, decides the rest. Come in and we will narrow it with you.
Look for a lace-up or a secure slip-on in leather, with a lining or a sock you can layer. Gabor and Josef Seibel are useful everyday starts. You do not have to move to a knee boot to get through a Kent winter. If you later want a shaft, our long boots are there.
Hoka appears in this mix only in a small way. A winter run needs grip and a warmer sock, and not every trainer in the shop is made for cold rain. Ask what is actually in, and bring the pair you train in so we can compare the fit. We will not dress a fashion shoe up as a running shoe.
Choose a lined or leather shoe that leaves room for a wool sock, and keep that sock dry. Cold feet may simply need insulation. If they are cold, numb or painful in a way that worries you, please speak to a podiatrist or your GP. A shoe can be more comfortable. It is not a treatment.
Wear the sock and the closed shoe as a pair, and change the sock if it gets damp. Indoors, an ankle slipper from our boot slippers page will hold warmth once you are home. Outdoors, a shoe with a proper sole beats a thin flat. Leather conditioner will not warm you, but dry leather will keep weather out longer than a soaked one.
Call in on Gabriel’s Hill in Maidstone and bring the sock you mean to wear all winter. Taller boots are on long boots for women, and house warmth is on boot slippers for ladies.
